On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, a new dimension has been added to the healthcare services of Unakoti district. State Minister of Social Welfare, Social Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, formally inaugurated the much-awaited SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) and PMBJAY (Prime Minister Bhartiya Janaushadhi Yojana) services. This initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter in the healthcare sector of Unakoti district.
With the launch of the SNCU, specialized and modern medical facilities will now be easily available for newborns delivered at the district hospital or referred from other health centers. Doctors believe this will play a crucial role in reducing infant mortality rates.
On the other hand, with the opening of the PMBJAY counter, the poor and common people will be able to procure quality generic medicines at government-approved prices. This will significantly reduce treatment costs and make medicines more accessible to the public.
Apart from Minister Tinku Roy, the special event was attended by Unakoti Zilla Parishad Chairman Amolendu Das, District Magistrate Tamal Majumdar, Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirsendu Chakma, District Medical Officer Dr. Sanjay Rudra Pal, and Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Rohan Pal, among others.
With the launch of these services, a long-standing demand of the residents of Unakoti has finally been fulfilled, reflecting the government’s commitment. Local people believe that not only Unakoti but also residents of neighboring districts will greatly benefit from this initiative.
