On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, a mega blood donation camp was organized on Friday at the Unakoti Kalakshetra, Kailashahar. The event was jointly hosted by the Unakoti District Administration and Kailashahar Blood Donors’ Association with support from Sai Computers. On this occasion, Tripura’s Minister of Social Welfare, Social Education and Sports, Tinku Roy, urged people from all communities to come forward to donate blood in order to address the acute shortage of blood in the state. The stage for the event was dedicated in memory of Kailashahar’s son of the soil, martyr Vishnuprasad Goala.
Minister Tinku Roy said that compared to other states, the demand for blood in Tripura is significantly higher, particularly due to cases of early marriage that often lead to unhealthy childbirth, requiring blood transfusion for mothers. He noted that much of the present demand is met by donors from Hindu and tribal communities, while blood donation rates remain relatively lower among the Muslim community. He appealed to all communities to come forward voluntarily to donate blood so that the state’s blood crisis can be substantially reduced.
Among the dignitaries present at the event, apart from the Minister, were Unakoti District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bipul Das, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirsendu Chakma, President of the Blood Donors’ Association Anupam Pal, Secretary Subhashish Choudhury, and several other eminent personalities.
Delivering the welcome speech, Sanjib Choudhury, a member of the Advisory Committee of Kailashahar Blood Donors’ Association, highlighted how the organization has been working to meet blood requirements not only in Kailashahar but also outside the district since 1997. He also mentioned that with the active role of Kailashahar Blood Bank, the activities of middlemen around Unakoti District Hospital have almost come to a halt. Furthermore, he appealed for a permanent office for the Kailashahar Blood Donors’ Association. In response, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar assured that within the next month, a room would be provided either at RGM Sub-Divisional Hospital or within the Unakoti District Hospital premises.
During the event, Minister Tinku Roy, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, and Unakoti Zilla Parishad Chairman Amolendu Das were felicitated with mementos by the association.
A total of 41 donors participated in this mega camp, including a large number of residents from the sub-division and several jawans of the 28th Battalion of Assam Rifles. Among the donors were 12 women and 29 men. With the enthusiastic participation of donors, the occasion spread a renewed message of patriotism and humanitarian service on Independence Day.
