Just after assuming charge as the Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station, Tapas Malakar achieved a significant success. Acting on specific intelligence, Kailashahar Police seized a vehicle carrying a large quantity of foreign liquor. The incident took place on Sunday evening in the Chinibagan area, where a suspicious Bolero vehicle heading from Dharmanagar to Kamalpur was intercepted.
The vehicle, bearing registration number AS-11-Y-2117, was attempting to pass through the Chinibagan police checkpoint with a substantial load of contraband. On being suspicious, the police personnel on duty stopped the vehicle and conducted a search. Upon inspection, 55 cartons containing a total of 980 bottles of foreign liquor were recovered. The estimated market value of the seized liquor is around ₹1.2 lakh.
According to Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar, based on a tip-off, plainclothes police officers were deployed near the Chinibagan checkpoint. Spotting the tinted-glass vehicle raised suspicion, prompting a thorough search, which led to the discovery of the large cache of contraband.
The owner of the vehicle has been identified as Santosh Dhar, a resident of Dharmanagar. The driver has been detained, and a case has been registered against him under relevant sections. He will be produced before the court on Monday, the OC confirmed.
OC Tapas Malakar further stated that efforts to curb drug and liquor smuggling in the Kailashahar region will be intensified.
