Kailashahar,Anupam Pal:Even the remote rural areas of Tripura are now experiencing the touch of modern infrastructure. With the direct initiative of Tinku Roy, the state’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, a new international-standard synthetic football ground is taking shape at the Belkumbari School field in Deorachhara ADC Village, under Gournagar RD Block in Unakoti District. For many rural youths who have long been deprived of sports facilities, this field is emerging as a new beacon of hope.
Located about 12 kilometers from Kailashahar town, this state-of-the-art football field is being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 5 crore, with financial assistance from the Tribal Welfare Department and under the supervision of the Department of Sports. Ajit Kumar Singh, the acting headmaster of Belkumbari Junior Basic School, said, “The field in front of the school is being developed through the initiative of the Sports Department and funded by the Tribal Welfare Department. The virtual foundation stone was laid by the Chief Minister of Tripura, Professor Dr. Manik Saha, on 4th March 2025. On that day, the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy was also present.”
He further informed that although the work has been ongoing for the past four months, the field is expected to be completed within the next month. This field is one of three FIFA-standard grounds currently being constructed in the state, which is a matter of pride for Unakoti district. The headmaster also added, “Local youths are very passionate about football. Once this field is ready, they will have a proper environment to practice and play, and in the future, there is potential for them to play at the state or even international level.”
The project has sparked enthusiasm and excitement in the local area. Residents have expressed their gratitude to the Sports Department for this initiative. According to them, such infrastructure development will keep the youth away from social evils like drug addiction through sports. It will pave the way for positive social transformation.
Undoubtedly, this project is not just about sports development—it is also a significant step toward empowering the youth and making them self-reliant. Locals hope that this football ground in Belkumbari will one day become a breeding ground for national and international-level players.
