Kailashahar,Anupam Pal:In a landmark judgment, the Kailashahar Sessions Court today sentenced Ramiz Ali to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Roshna Begum. The verdict was delivered by Sessions Judge Sudipta Chowdhury, with Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb representing the government.
On January 6, 2020, Ramiz Ali brutally killed his wife, Roshna Begum, with an axe. The following morning, he informed her family that she had passed away. On January 7, when Roshna Begum’s family arrived at her in-laws’ house, they found her lifeless body along with a broken axe nearby.
Roshna Begum’s mother, Nesarun Bibi, filed a case at Irani Police Station. Investigating Officer Aparna Debnath conducted an extensive investigation and submitted the charge sheet on May 31, 2020, charging Ramiz Ali under Sections 498A and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On Saturday, the court found Ramiz Ali guilty of the charges. Today, Monday, the court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 498A of the IPC along with a fine of ₹50,000, failing which he would serve an additional nine months in prison. Under Section 302, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined ₹50,000, with an additional nine months in prison for non-payment of the fine.
Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that the accused was convicted based on detailed investigation and substantial evidence. He emphasized that Roshna Begum’s family has finally received justice.
Roshna Begum’s family welcomed the court’s decision, calling it a symbol of justice for them. Local residents also expressed their approval of the verdict, hoping that such strict punishments would help reduce incidents of domestic violence in the future.
This judgment by the Kailashahar Sessions Court sets a significant precedent. It sends a strong message about the consequences of domestic violence and crimes against women, reaffirming the commitment to justice in society.
