A high-level delegation from the State Health Department visited Unakoti district on Thursday to review the rising cases of dengue in the region. The three-member team was led by Dr. Debasree Debbarma, Director of Health Services. He was accompanied by Joint Director Dr. Nirmal Sarkar and Deputy Director Health Service Dr. Shankha Shubhra Debnath.
Joining the delegation were Unakoti’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirsendu Chakma, District Health Officer Dr. Sanjay Rudra Pal, and Dr. Riya Bhadra, In-Charge of the Samrur Para Primary Health Centre. The team visited various hospitals and health centres across the district and conducted a detailed assessment of the prevailing dengue situation.
The delegation first visited the District Hospital to review the existing healthcare infrastructure, patient facilities, and overall service conditions. Later, they visited RGM Sub-Divisional Hospital and Samrur Para Primary Health Centre, where they held meetings with doctors and health workers to discuss preventive measures, available treatment facilities, and future action plans to control the spread of dengue.
The officials stated that to keep the situation under control, awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives, and rapid diagnostic initiatives will be intensified. Steps are also being taken to ensure an adequate supply of medicines and testing equipment in hospitals.
After completing their field visits, the delegation met with the District Magistrate of Unakoti to discuss strategies for improving the district’s overall healthcare services and addressing infrastructural gaps. The team assured that the state government is taking all necessary precautions to contain the spread of dengue and that such monitoring visits will continue in the future.
It is worth mentioning that recently, Unakoti’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shirsendu Chakma, informed the media that 46 dengue cases had been detected in the district. Following the wide media coverage of this news, the State Health Department promptly sent the high-level team to Kailashahar, the district headquarters, to assess the situation firsthand and take necessary decisions for further action.
