This evening, a fire broke out on an electric pole at Swaroopananda Sarani, the heart of the town, due to an electrical short circuit. As the flames suddenly spread, panic gripped the densely populated locality. At first, local residents tried to control the fire on their own, but as the situation grew complicated, the fire brigade was immediately informed.
Upon receiving the alert, firefighters rushed to the spot, disconnected the power supply, and sprayed water to completely extinguish the fire. As a result, a major disaster was averted.
It is noteworthy that, throughout the day today, branches of trees were being cut across the town for the occasion of Pak Puja. Consequently, electricity supply had remained shut since morning. As soon as the power was restored in the evening, a short circuit triggered another power disruption at Swaroopananda Sarani and nearby areas.
Currently, workers of the private electricity service provider Sai Computer are working tirelessly through the night to restore normal power supply. Meanwhile, local residents have once again raised demands for a permanent solution to such recurring issues. They alleged that most of the town’s electric poles and wires are old and poorly maintained, often creating dangerous situations.
