Tripura: A tense atmosphere prevailed across Tripura on Friday morning as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) simultaneously conducted raids at seven locations. The raids, targeting allegations of drug trafficking and financial irregularities, have created widespread commotion in the state. ED teams have been investigating multiple locations, from Agartala to various subdivisions.
According to sources, ED’s special teams conducted searches in areas like Agartala, Nandan Nagar, Nutan Nagar, Boxanagar, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, and Bishalgarh. Nearly 250 CRPF personnel were deployed for the operation. Notably, the residence of Subrata Dey, a former police official, located in the Chief Minister’s constituency of Bardowali, was also searched.
The primary focus of these raids was on curbing drug trafficking and illegal financial transactions. Sources stated that the searches yielded documents, digital data, and other materials that could establish links between drug traffickers and influential businessmen and political leaders.
Key individuals whose properties were raided include,Apu Ranjan Das,Debabrata De,Bishu Tripura,Kamini Debbarma,Tapas Debnath,Dhruba Majumdar,Liton Saha.
Additionally, the name of a prominent political leader from Dharmanagar and a former minister from the opposition Left party have also emerged during the investigation.
Tripura has recently gained notoriety as a transit point for drug trafficking, with allegations of supply chains stretching to neighboring states and international borders. The role of the administration in controlling these activities has also come under scrutiny. Despite multiple operations, the outcomes have often left the public skeptical.
Political analysts and citizens alike believe that such raids have been seen in the past but have rarely yielded effective results. Investigations by agencies like ED, CBI, and NIA often seem to fade into obscurity without conclusive outcomes.
While the current operation has sparked some hope, doubts remain. Many feel that the dramatic start of these raids might not lead to a decisive conclusion. However, if ED genuinely conducts an impartial investigation, it could dismantle the nexus of drug trafficking and financial crimes in Tripura.
Curbing drug trafficking and financial crimes is crucial for the state, and this ED operation is a step in that direction. Yet, without decisive action against influential individuals and criminals, public trust could be further eroded. It is imperative for ED and other investigative agencies to pursue this investigation diligently and ensure exemplary punishment for those involved.
