The CPI(M) Sub-Divisional Committee submitted an 8-point charter of demands to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gournagar RD Block, Unakoti district headquarters, Kailashahar. Present at the deputation were Sub-Divisional Secretary Anjan Roy, State Committee member Bishwarup Goswami, senior party members Kanti Lal Deb, Bipul Sinha, and others. A five-member delegation on behalf of the party handed over the memorandum to the BDO, Nabarun Chakraborty.
The demands included providing sufficient work under the MGNREGA scheme before the upcoming Durga festival, preventing political interference in the PMAY scheme and ensuring no genuine beneficiary is excluded, investigating corruption in drinking water projects such as Atal Jaldhara and Jal Jeevan Mission, repairing rural roads, cancelling inflated electricity bills, and withdrawing the plan to install smart meters, among other public-interest issues.
Speaking on the occasion, CPI(M) State Committee member Bishwarup Goswami said— “Under the present government, the basic problems of the common people are being neglected. From drinking water to electricity, from roads to MGNREGA projects—corruption and irregularities are rampant everywhere. We have demanded that adequate MGNREGA work be given before the festive season, genuine beneficiaries under PMAY must not be removed, and public welfare schemes must not be used for political interests. From the Gournagar cattle market irregularities to rural road repairs, riverbank erosion prevention, and cancellation of inflated electricity bills—all these must be addressed urgently. People are facing daily hardships while the administration and government remain silent spectators. We have made it clear—if these problems are not resolved, the movement will be intensified.”
According to local sources, the CPI(M) deputation has sparked political discussions in the area. It is reported that the administration has assured steps will be taken to address these demands promptly.
