Anupam Pal, Kailashahar
On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a condemnation and protest rally at the Kailashahar Municipal Council premises. The primary objective of the event was to counter what the party described as the propaganda and falsehoods spread by the CPI(M)–Congress alliance.Among those present at the rally were State Minister Tinku Roy, Chairman of the Waqf Board Mobswar Ali, Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy, BJP District President Bimal Kar, Kailashahar Mandal President Pritam Ghosh, Chandipur Mandal President Pintu Ghosh, along with several other party leaders.
Addressing the gathering as the chief speaker, Minister of Social Education and Social Welfare Tinku Roy highlighted the developmental initiatives undertaken by both the central and state governments. He stated that in the past seven years, historic decisions had been made to improve the living standards of farmers. Nearly 1.4 million farmers in the state have been covered under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme. Additionally, 381,685 farmers have received Kisan Credit Cards.
The minister claimed that the state government has begun procuring paddy directly from farmers. To further support them, market sheds are being constructed in Dolugaon and across the state at a cost of ₹127.15 crore. He added that equal importance is being given to infrastructure development. While earlier there was only one national highway in the state, today there are six. Approximately 500 kilometers of new paved roads have already been completed, and work on another 500 kilometers is underway.
Highlighting progress in healthcare, Tinku Roy said that a new infrastructure for the Agartala Dental College is being developed at a cost of ₹202 crore. At GB Hospital, a new mother-and-child hospital is being constructed with ₹192 crore. Furthermore, a de-addiction hospital is coming up at Bishramganj with ₹121 crore, and another at Chandipur Block premises with ₹20 crore. The minister also pointed out that the BJP government had reopened the previously shut RGM Hospital.
The rally was not limited to development talks alone; political attacks were equally forceful. Questioning the financial status of Opposition Leader Jitendra Choudhury, Tinku Roy remarked:“How did Jitendra Choudhury, once a labor leader, acquire five plots of land, 15 bank accounts across seven banks? He questions former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s foreign trips, but has himself traveled to 10 countries.”
The minister further took a swipe at Choudhury for raising the issue of Minister Sudhanshu Das’s brother purchasing land. “If someone bought land, what’s the problem? But when it comes to his own wealth, he remains silent. These statements are only meant to mislead the common people,” Roy said.
Other BJP leaders present at the rally also dismissed the opposition’s allegations, voicing strong support for the government’s developmental work.
