Kailashahar, Sept 7:
A sensational incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon near the cremation ground in Ward No. 9 of Kailashahar Municipality. According to local sources, around 15–20 Bangladeshi nationals crossed the border through the Manu River while collecting floating firewood and entered Indian territory. At that time, a funeral was taking place at the cremation ground. When BSF jawans present on the spot ordered the intruders to return, the latter retaliated by hurling glass bottles and stones at the jawans, accompanied by abusive language.
Eyewitness Nimu Malakar said, “When asked why they were attacking the BSF, the Bangladeshi youths directly threatened that they would behead the jawans and play football with their heads—this is not the old Bangladesh anymore.” Such provocative and violent threats in broad daylight at the border not only raise serious concerns over border security but also pose a direct danger to the safety of Indian citizens.
As tensions escalated, senior BSF officials rushed to the spot and contacted the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Following discussions, the BGB ordered the intruders to return, and shortly after, they retreated back into Bangladesh through the river. Local residents expressed anger, stating that Bangladeshi nationals frequently cross into India under the pretext of fishing or collecting firewood. Yet, Bangladesh’s authorities remain virtually silent in the face of such incidents.
This episode once again exposes the fragile state of governance under the current Yunus administration in Bangladesh. Engaging in terrorist-like behavior at the border, openly threatening to kill Indian security forces—such acts demonstrate that the Bangladeshi government’s control over its border regions is practically collapsing. On the one hand, the Yunus government preaches democracy on international platforms, while on the other, it remains silent as its citizens engage in unchecked lawlessness along the border.
Experts believe this incapacity not only heightens insecurity among Indian border residents but also exerts unnecessary strain on bilateral relations between the two nations. Locals are demanding tighter surveillance along the border and strict action against Bangladeshi intruders.
