The attack on the residence of Dr. Ayan Roy, the Nodal Health Officer of Unakoti district, has sparked concern across Kailashahar town. This incident not only raises questions about the safety of a doctor but also highlights the deteriorating law and order situation in the area.
On January 30, at around 10:30 PM, Dr. Ayan Roy, along with his wife and daughter, had gone to bed after dinner. In the middle of the night, a group of unidentified miscreants launched an attack on his house by throwing liquor bottles. Hearing loud noises, he woke up and saw seven to eight intoxicated youths on three bikes causing chaos outside his house. As he raised an alarm, the miscreants fled the scene.
Dr. Roy immediately informed the Kailashahar police station. In response, Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Sen Choudhury, along with a large team of police and TSR personnel, arrived at the scene and began an investigation.
On January 31, Dr. Roy lodged a written complaint at the police station. As the news of the attack spread, an atmosphere of fear gripped the Durgapur area and its surroundings. Local residents believe that the lack of regular police patrolling and effective measures has emboldened miscreants, turning the city’s streets into a haven for lawlessness at night.
Residents are demanding increased police surveillance in key areas of the city. They emphasize the need for intensified night patrols and stricter monitoring of suspicious individuals.
The concerned authorities have assured swift action to identify and punish the culprits. However, locals believe that reactive measures are not enough; proactive steps must be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
The demand for better security measures, particularly for professionals and responsible citizens, is growing across the sub-division. Residents urge the administration to take a more active role in ensuring safety so that such incidents do not occur again.
