The journalist community has expressed strong resentment over the misconduct by Dr. D.K. Pal, an on-duty doctor at Unakoti District Hospital, towards Shubhankar Das, the Joint Secretary of Kailashahar Journalists’ Club. On Wednesday afternoon, the journalist organization submitted a memorandum to the Chief Medical Officer of the district and the Acting Medical Superintendent of the district hospital.
In this regard, Uttam Deb, President of Kailashahar Journalists’ Club, said: “Our Joint Secretary Shubhankar Das had gone to the hospital solely to carry out his professional duty. Yet, without any reason, the doctor misbehaved with him and attacked the journalists of Kailashahar in an insulting manner. If a doctor can speak like this to a journalist, it is not hard to imagine how he might behave with common patients and their relatives. We demand fair justice in this matter. If proper action is not taken within 48 hours, the Club will be compelled to launch a larger movement.”
This incident has sparked strong reactions within the journalist community. All eyes are now on the concerned department to see what steps are taken following the investigation.
