On September 11, fresh tension erupted in Kailasahar during the 12-hour strike called by the Congress. The BJP has alleged that during the strike, Congress workers raised death threat and provocative slogans against Arup Dhar, the Unakoti District President of the BJP Yuva Morcha, and even issued threats to his residence from the court premises. It has also been alleged that continuous threats are being made through social media.
On Friday around 9 PM, Arup Dhar lodged a written complaint with Kailasahar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar. BJP District President Bimal Kar, Unakoti BJP Spokesperson Debasish Sen, General Secretary Arun Saha, along with other party workers, were present at the time of lodging the complaint.
The complaint mentioned the names of three Congress workers. Arup Dhar demanded that a speedy investigation be conducted, legal action be taken against the accused, and his as well as his family’s safety be ensured.
Speaking to the media, Unakoti BJP spokesperson Debasish Sen said, “The Congress has deliberately issued death threats against Arup Dhar. If such personal attacks and life-threatening slogans are given in the name of democratic movements, it is clearly a violation of the rule of law. We want the police to take immediate action and ensure strict punishment for the culprits.”
The incident has sparked political uproar in the local area.
