In Kailashahar’s Latiapura Gram Panchayat, police from Irani Police Station have arrested a father on charges of murdering his minor daughter. The accused, 32-year-old Nechar Ali alias Anwar, brought his seven-year-old daughter to Unakoti District Hospital on the evening of September 7 with the help of the fire service, where doctors declared her dead. At that time, the father claimed that the child had committed suicide using a towel.
However, doctors grew suspicious and informed the police. During the investigation, police found several inconsistencies surrounding the child’s death. The following day, on September 8, the postmortem report revealed injury marks on the victim’s head. Special sources confirmed that the accused first struck his daughter’s head with a sharp machete and later staged the scene to look like a suicide by hanging her with a towel.
The victim’s mother, Rajna Begum, lodged a written complaint with Irani Police Station, accusing her husband Nechar Ali of murder. Based on her complaint, a case (No. 41/2025) was registered, and the accused was arrested and produced before the court. Police have applied for three days’ remand.
Locals allege that the accused was involved in substance abuse and had recently separated from his wife. According to residents, the brutal murder stemmed from his addiction and ongoing family disputes. The tragic and untimely death of the minor girl has cast a pall of grief and anger across the entire area. Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the case.
